Regina Cassandra At The 65th Jio Filmfare Awards South 2018

The trailer of Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga is being widely talked about, but what has mostly gone unnoticed is that the film marks Regina Cassandra’s Hindi debut.

Regina, who started her career as an anchor, and made her debut in the 2005 Tamil film Kanda Naal Mudhal, has starred in many Tamil, Telugu and Kannada films. She was last seen in the Tamil films Mr.Chandramouli, and Vishnu Vishal’s Silukkuvarupatti Singam, currently running in theatres. She awaits the release of Venkat Prabhu’s Party.

Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga is directed by Shelly Chopra Dhar, and stars Sonam Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Juhi Chawla and Abhishek Duhan. It is the first movie to feature Sonam Kapoor and Anil Kapoor together. It also marks the coming together of the hit pair of Anil Kapoor and Juhi Chawla.

Said to be a coming-of-age drama, the film’s trailer hints that Sonam Kapoor’s character might be in love with a woman, and Regina Cassandra is rumoured to be her lover.

There have been other Bollywood films with lesbian characters, but Ek Ladki Ko… might be the first mainstream Bollywood film to look at homosexuality seriously, and talk about its ramifications. The movie has been written by Gazal Dhaliwal, a trans woman.

The title of the film is from a song in 1942: A love story, starring Anil Kapoor. Lyrics was by Javed Akhtar, and the song was rendered by Kumar Sanu. It went on to become a classic, and was one of the last compositions of the legendary RD Burman. Vidhu Vinod Chopra who directed 1942: A love story, will produce this Sonam Kapoor-starrer.

Ek Ladk Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga releases on February 1.
