Resul Pookutty’s ‘Oru Kadhai Sollattumaa’ Releases Tomorrow

Oru Kadhai Sollatuma Movie Stills Starring Resul Pookutty

Sound designer Resul Pookutty’s much awaited film – Oru Kadhai Sollattumaa in Tamil, The Sound Story in Malayalam, Telugu and Hindi, is all set to hit screens tomorrow. The film marks his first acting project, and is written and directed by Prasad Prabhakar.

Resul Pookutty tweeted a best wishes note sent by Latha Rajinikanth, thanking the Rajinikanth family.

Actor Parthiban, who watched the movie at a premiere that happened recently, said that he enjoyed the experience of the film, and asked youngsters to watch it.

The first-look poster of the movie released last month. In the film, Resul Pookutty plays a sound designer who goes to the Thrissur pooram to fulfil his dream of capturing and recording all the sounds of the festival with a mike. The pooram happens at Vadakkumnathan temple in Kerala every year, with 60 elephants and over a million people in attendance.

The film was initially planned as a documentary, but the filmmakers felt it would be incomplete. In an interview with Scroll, Pookutty says that when he found out that the elephant carrying the deity was blind, and was guided only by sounds, the idea for the feature film stemmed. “What if I were to replace the elephant with a visually challenged person – how would they experience pooram? Without any script, we then began shooting with this idea. We turned around the entire project and converted it into a feature film about a sound designer’s attempt to record Thrissur pooram for the visually challenged,” he said.

The film has been in production for the last two years. The music is by Rahul Raj, and the songs and trailer were edited by Antony. Over 80 technicians from Hollywood and Bollywood worked to capture the sounds of pooram live. The camera team covered over 300 live performing artists using 22 cameras.

The film is produced by Palmstone Media. It had its Indian premiere at the Chennai International Film festival in December last year.
