The Andhra Pradesh government issued an order, on Thursday, permitting movie theatres to raise the ticket prices for the upcoming Telugu film RRR (aka Roudhram Ranam Rudhiram) by Rs 75 over the current admission rates, under the ‘super high-budget’ film category.

The hike in ticket prices will be applicable for 10 days from the release of RRR. The film is scheduled to hit the big screens on March 25.

“Government, after careful examination of the recommendations of the Committee received vide reference 2nd cited, hereby permit the management of all the cinema theatres in the State of Andhra Pradesh to increase an amount of Rs 75 per ticket over and above the admission rates mentioned in GO for all classes for a period of 10 days from the date of the first release of the film RRR,” the GO stated.

This order follows the AP government’s recent move revising the ticket prices at cinema halls across the state. The government, in an order passed in early March, had increased the capped movie hall prices across the board from the earlier rates. That same order had specified that for certain ‘super high-budget films’, defined as those whose production cost was over Rs 100 crore (excluding the remuneration of artists and directors), the government would notify special rates applicable for a period of 10 days.

RRR is the first big-budget film to benefit from this concession.

Directed by SS Rajamouli and backed by DVV Entertainment, it is a pan-Indian film that will be released in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam.
