Shooting of the film is expected to begin in January 2021, Prabhas announced in a post on social media on Wednesday.

Neel is most popular for helming the 2018 hit Kannada film KGF: Chapter 1, that first released in Kannada and was later dubbed and released in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi. Salaar will also release in Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi, the film’s publicity manager Yuvraaj told Silverscreen India.

The makers announced the title of Prabhas and Neel’s upcoming film and released a first-look poster on Wednesday through Twitter.

Salaar is being produced by Vijay Kiragandur of Hombale Films, who also produced KGF: Chapter 1. Salaar marks the producer-director duo’s third collaboration on a pan-Indian film after KGF: Chapter 1 and its sequel KGF: Chapter 2, that resumed shooting this August. KGF: Chapter 1, a period drama that dealt with a gold mafia in Karnataka’s Kolar Gold Fields, and its sequel both starred Yash in the lead role.

“We are going to make this movie in all major Indian languages,” said Kiragandur in a press release issued on Wednesday.

Details about the rest of the cast of the film will be announced soon, Yuvraaj told Silverscreen India.

There has been no official announcement on the scheduled release date of the film. Kirangandur, however, said that Salaar will release only after the release of Prabhas’ pan-India film Radhe Shyam, which he is currently shooting for along with Pooja Hegde.

Salaar marks the entry of Prabhas in Kannada cinema, and is his seventh Indian film after Baahubali: The Beginning (2015), the massively successful period drama, its similarly successful sequel Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017), Saaho (2019), Radhe Shyam, Nag Ashwin‘s untitled film and Adipurush (upcoming period drama co-starring Saif Ali Khan and Kriti Sanon)
