Samantha Akkineni-Starrer ‘Oh! Baby’ Crosses Million Dollar Mark In The US

Director Nandini Reddy’s Samantha Akkineni-starrer Oh! Baby has crossed the million dollar mark in the US. The film opened to rave reviews on July 5, and has earned an estimated Rs 40 crore worldwide.

Samantha, who has been sharing regular updates about the film on Twitter, said last evening that they were going to make the mark. Today she tweeted that the team’s hard work, its dreams and dedication made the success possible. This is the second Telugu film headlined by a heroine to earn a million dollars in the US, after Anushka Shetty’s Bhaagamathie.

Singer Chinmayi, who dubbed for Samantha in the Tamil version of the film, wished her on Twitter.

Rakul Preet Singh, Chaitanya Akkineni, Adivi Sesh, Vennila Kishore were among those who tweeted.

Oh! Baby joins films such as Baahubali, Bharat Ane Nenu, Rangasthalam, Mahanati and Geetha Govindam in the million-dollar club, and is one of the highest grossing films in Samantha’s career.

The film is an official remake of the South Korean film Miss Granny, and set high expectations when it was announced in November 2018. The trailer garnered two million views in a day when it released last month.

The story is about a 70-year-old grandmother, played by Lakshmi, who finds herself in the body of a woman in her 20s (Samantha) and has an adventurous journey reliving her youth. Rao Ramesh, Naga Shaurya and Snigdha have important roles, and Adivi Sesh plays a cameo. Music is by Mickey J Meyer, cinematography by Richard Prasad and editing by Junaid Siddiqui.

This is also the first Telugu movie to have a strong female crew. In addition to Nandini Reddy and Samantha, the film has Lakshmi Bhupala as dialogue writer, Sunita Tati as producer under the banner of People’s Media Productions, Divya as executive producer, production design by Jayashree, and marketing by Niharika.

Meanwhile, Samantha has begun shooting for the Telugu remake of 96, directed by Prem Kumar and co-starring Sharwanand. She also plays a cameo in Rahul Ravindran’s Manmadhudu 2, starring Nagarjuna and Rakul Preet Singh. Her role in the film has been kept under wraps.
