Samuthirakani’s ‘Thondan’ Is Based On The Karur College Incident

Samuthirakani was so disturbed by the murder of a young female student at her Karur college, that he decided to include it in his upcoming Thondan. The film is said to be Samuthirakani’s dream project and was announced last year.

The film will be the cinematic representation of K Sonali, a twenty-two year old girl from Manamadurai in Sivagangai district. Sonali was savagely attacked with a wooden log by P Udayakumar, a senior from  her college. Investigations revealed that Udayakumar had proposed to Sonali. She had rejected his advances. 

According to a Deccan Chronicle report, the actor/director plays an ambulance driver in the film named Maha Vishnu. “Vishnu is termed as the lord of protection and hence my character is named after him,” he said.

Vikranth, Sunaina have important roles in the film that is in the final stages of production.

Meanwhile, Samuthirakani is currently shooting for the Malayalam version of his film Appa. Titled Aakasha Mittay, the film has Jayaram reprising Samuthirakani’s role from the original.

The film was originally supposed to have Varalaxmi Sarathkumar in the lead role. The actress walked out of the project after a dispute with the producers, prompting the makers to replace her with Ineya.

Samuthirakani also has Soundarya Rajinikanth’s Velaiyilla Pattadhari 2 and a film with director VZ Durai in the offing.
