Sanjna Kapoor Being Conferred Chevalier Title By French Government

Theatre personality Sanjna Kapoor who ran the Prithvi theatre, Mumbai (from 1993-2012) is being conferred the Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters) by the French government.

An erstwhile film actor, Sanjna is the daughter of Shashi Kapoor and Jennifer Kendal. Sanjna debuted as an actor with the Aparna Sen classic 36 Chowringhee Lane, in which her mother starred.

Sanjna quit cinema to pursue theatre in the late 80s. Prithvi theatre built by Shashi Kapoor and Jennifer, in memory of Prithviraj Kapoor, Shashi’s father, in Mumbai was managed by Sanjna until 2012. In the year 2012, she quit Prithvi to start Junoon Theatre.

“Junoon… is about creating access to theatre and the arts. Bringing the arts into the spaces of our daily lives. Bridging the gap between arts, artists and audiences,” accordinging to the theatre company.

Previously Sivaji Ganesan, Kamal Hassan and Kalki Koechlin have been conferred the title.
