Saqib Saleem Replaces Farhan Akhtar In Biopic On Balbir Singh

Saqib Saleem will replace Farhan Akhtar in former hockey captain Balbir Singh’s biopic Gold. Saleem was cast in a major role in the film after Akhtar walked out. Reportedly, Akhtar did not want to play a secondary role. The biopic stars Akshay Kumar and will go on floors soon.

Saqib will play one of Balbir Singh’s teammates in the film. Balbir Singh was a part of the Indian hockey team in 1948. He was vice-captain of the squad in 1952 and was made captain in 1956. While he was in the team, India won three successive gold medals at the Olympics.

The film is directed by Reema Kagti, with Farhan producing the project along with Ritesh Sidhwani through Excel Entertainment.

Saqib Saleem, brother of Huma Qureshi, was last seen as Viraj Sharma in Dishoom. His role was largely seen as a caricature of Indian cricketer Virat Kohli.
