Naiyandi–director Sarkunam has clarified that his next film Chandi Veeran, which is scheduled to release on August 7, does not deal with any particular caste. The action drama stars Atharvaa and Anandhi, and will be produced by director Bala. Speaking at the film’s press meet, Sarkunam said, “There are no scenes in the movie that glorifies or undermines the image of a particular caste or community. Almost all my movies are light-hearted films, and do not glorify any caste.”

Sarkunam revealed little about the intended message of the film. He said that after hearing the story, Bala had agreed with him that Artharvaa as the hero would be an ideal choice. Atharvaa has trained hard to showcase a more muscular body for this film. Sarkunam also said he had wanted a heroine like Oviya from Kalavani. After seeing a photo of Anandhi from Kayal, he felt she would be an ideal choice. Test shots in different village outfits proved satisfactory. He also said that Anandhi’s scenes were canned before Atharvaa’s scenes. Scenes featuring both of them were shot at the end, and the entire crew felt there was good chemistry between the two.
Actor Lal of Sandakozhi fame has also been roped in to play an integral role in the movie.

Talking about Naiyandi’s box-office run, Sarkunam said he took full responsibility for the movie’s poor collections. Considering Dhanush’s stature today, he said, “I regret for not using him properly in my film”.
