The film is a romantic action adventure, as per the report, which will be directed by the English filmmaker and actor Dexter Fletcher, who has previously directed Roocketman (2019). Fletcher also replaced Bryan Singer as director of Bohemian Rhapsody and finished it, though he only received executive producer credit for the 2018 film.

Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, writers of the Deadpool films and Zombieland (2009), penned the script of Ghosted and and sold it to David Ellison’s production company Skydance, which is co-producing the project with Apple. Skydance has previously produced films like the Amazon Prime Video release The Tomorrow War (2021) and Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015), and is currently backing several upcoming films, including Mission Impossible 7 and Star Trek 4, which are slated for 2022 and 2023, respectively.

Johansson and Evans are reportedly in advanced negotiations for the upcoming project.

While further details of the film, including the budget, have not been disclosed yet, The Hollywood Reporter says that Ghosted is described as a high budget, high-concept film along the lines of the 1984 adventure film, Romancing the Stone, starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner.

The report adds that Evans, Reese and Werinick will also produce the upcoming film.

Johansson, who recently filed a lawsuit against Disney over breach of contract regarding the simultaneous theatrical and digital release of her film Black Widow, has collaborated with Evans numerous times. They have been seen together in four Avengers films, namely The Avengers (2012), Age of Ultron (2015), Infinity War (2018) and Endgame (2019), as well as the MCU films Captain America: Winter Soldier (2014) and Captain America: Civil War (2016).

Ghosted marks Apple TV’s second collaboration with Evans after the 2020 American crime drama miniseries Defending Jacob. The upcoming film also marks the second film that Johansson will be working on for Apple. Last year, it was revealed that she would star in and produce the upcoming science-fiction film Bride, produced by Apple and A24.
