Seema Raja Trailer: All Eyes On Sivakarthikeyan

The first twenty seconds of the trailer of Seema Raja might as well be the introduction scene of a masala movie. Both serve the same purpose – contribute little in terms of the plot and instead focus all the attention on the film’s hero.

Seema Raja starring Sivakarthikeyan marks the actor’s third collaboration with director Ponram and producer R.D. Raja after 2016’s Rajini Murugan and 2013’s Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam.

The trailer shows Sivakarthikeyan playing Kabaddi. There are even a few action scenes staged on the ground suggesting that the sport is intrinsic to the plot. Perhaps to justify the presence of the word “Raja’ (king) in the title, the protagonist is shown riding a chariot on more than one occasion. The word ‘Raja’ also finds repeated mention throughout the trailer.

The trailer suggests that a staple masala movie is in store. However, the character played by Simran in the film provides some excitement. Early reports indicate that she plays a sister role to the main antagonist, Lal, but the trailer shows her sharing a seat with him, signalling a meaty role. In another scene, she is shown talking to a crowd where she says, “While you guys fight in your dhotis, I can very well fight in a sari.”

Fresh off the success of the Vishal-starrer Irumbuthirai, Samantha Ruth Prabhu plays the female lead in the film. She currently awaits the release of U-Turn, a remake of the Kannada movie of the same name, in Telugu and Tamil. Reports suggest that the movie might clash with Seema Raja.

Actor Napolean, too, makes a brief appearance towards the end of the trailer. Comedian Soori plays Maths, the protagonist’s sidekick. The trailer also offers a glimpse of two songs. Towards the end, Sivakarthikeyan appears dressed as a King in full armor. His shield is covered in arrows, and the sepia tone given to the scene suggests that a flashback is in store for the audience as well.

Music of the movie has been composed by D. Imman. The movie releases on September 13 on the occasion of Vinayaka Chathurthi.
