Director Selvaraghavan has urged the State Government to start a film school in director K Balachander’s memory. The Irandaam Ulagam director began his career as an assistant to KB. Recalling his first day on the sets, he said, “I was standing there clueless when KB whispered ‘welcome’ to me and walked away. I will remember the moment for the rest of my life.”

After watching Selva’s Thulluvadho Ilamai, KB apparently wrote him a long letter. “I will cherish that letter all my life. He’s always treated me like a son.”

The director paid his last respects to the Iyakkunar Sigaram yesterday, along with his mother.
