Set Work For Atlee’s ‘Thalapathy 63’ Begins

Theri Movie Stills

Since Thalapathy 63 was announced in September, fans of Vijay have been awaiting updates. The film was launched a few weeks back, and the team has now begun work on the sets.

Confirming it officially, art director Muthuraj tweeted a picture of him and director Atlee at the location decided for set work. Reports suggest that the work is happening in Binny Mills, Perambur.

Earlier this week, it was announced that Nayanthara will play the female lead in Thalapathy 63. This is the actress’ second collaboration with Vijay, after Villu (2009), directed by Prabhu Deva. It is also her second collaboration with the director, who made his debut Raja Rani (2013), starring Nayanthara and Arya in the lead.

Thalapathy 63 is said to be a crime-thriller, and is Vijay and Atlee’s third project together after Theri (2016), and Mersal (2017). Producer Archana Kalpathy will bankroll this project under the banner AGS Entertainment, and as with Mersal, AR Rahman will compose music with lyrics penned by Vivek. GK Vishnu will be the cinematographer.

According to a report, actor-comedian Yogi Babu is the recent addition to the film’s cast. However, there is no official confirmation on this. If the news is to be believed, this is the third time Vijay and Babu are teaming up. Earlier, they had acted together in Sarkar and Mersal.

Meanwhile, a few reports also suggest that actor-comedian Vivekh might be cast in the film, like in Mersal, where comedians like Vadivelu and Kovai Sarala played important roles. But there is no official confirmation on this.

As for the rest of the crew, Atlee will go with the Mersal team, including editor Antony Ruben, stunt director Anal Arasu and art director Muthuraj.

Sources suggest that Aalaporaan Tamizhan, a song from Mersal, is the title being considered. If everything goes as planned, this will be the actor’s next Deepavali release.
