SRK’s appearance comes at a time when TED India is looking to move to television, with Shah Rukh Khan as the host. The TV show will broadcast speeches on a variety of topics, in Hindi. SRK spoke about the TV show during his speech. He said, “There are so many people in India who would like to come out with their ideas and thoughts, and speak them in Hindi.”

TED – short for Technology, Entertainment, Design – is an annual conference that brings together some of the world’s most influential (and often the richest) experts in many fields, to deliver lectures of about 18 minutes length. Each talk is shared online at TED.com for the world to see, and share. Over the years, TED has developed a strong brand for itself as the place where “Ideas Worth Spreading” come from. Originally set in Long Beach, California, the conference moved to Vancouver, Canada in 2014.

SRK’s speech covered stages of his career, and his growth as a human being. He said, “Humanity is a lot like me, it’s an ageing movie star, grappling with all the newness around it, wondering whether it got it right in the first place and still trying to find a way to keep on shining regardless.”

SRK’s father died when the actor was 14. SRK touched upon it. “From that night onwards, much akin to humanity in its adolescence, I learned the crude tools of survival.”

Further in to the speech, he said, “By the time I was 40, I was really flying. I had done 50 films by then, and 200 songs and I’d been knighted by the Malaysians and given the highest civil honor by the French government. Humanity was soaring with me, we were both flying off the handle, actually.”

In his allotted 18 minutes, SRK also found time to do the Lungi Dance, dressed in a suit and dhoti however.
