Sakthi, the director of the film, filed the complaint at the Chennai Commissioner office on Monday, requesting to take action against Maran and his channel. In his petition he said, “After the release of the film, on 26 January 2019, Maran called me and said that he was going to review the film, and asked me to pay a huge sum to advertise the film on his channel.”

“It is already known that Maran threatens people in the industry saying that he will say bad things about the film. When we told him that we cannot afford to pay to advertise or review the film, he reviewed our film with bad comments.”

“The bad review of the film has created a fear among the distributors and theater management, who fear a loss,” he added.

In his petition, Sakthi also mentioned that Maran told him that he would go to any extent to make a profit. It is said that Maran gave death threats to the director saying that he had a lot of influence. Sakthi’s petition requested the commissioner to take strict action against Maran and block his YouTube channel for spreading false news and hatred.

Maran, in his review on the YouTube channel, said that the director has not upgraded himself and is one of those people who wants to make films without having knowledge about it. He also said that the film misses logic with jumps in shots. He criticized actor Prabhu Deva and said, “Prabhu Deva, a multi-lingual actor, seems like doesn’t listen to the script properly. I don’t know how is signing for such scripts.”

Charlie Chaplin 2, a sequel to the 2002 film Charlie Chaplin, is a romantic comedy directed by Shakthi Chidambaram and produced by T Siva under the banner Amma Creations. The film stars Prabhu Deva and Nikki Galrani in the lead, with Prabhu Ganesan, Adah Sharma, Samir Kochhar, Aravind Akash, Vivek Prasanna and Abhirami in pivotal roles.
