Shamili, best known in South cinema for memorable roles as a child actor in Anjali and Durga, has been approached by Director Lingusamy to play the female lead in Sandakozhi 2, which also stars Vishal, according to a Deccan Chronicle report. Lingusamy had been searching for a suitable lead actress and had initially wanted to cast Keerthi Suresh, but the actress was unavailable to date issues. According to the report, Lingusamy chanced upon Shamili’s new pictures and felt that she would be perfect for the role. Vishal had earlier denied rumours that Samantha or Tamannaah would be his co-star in Sandakozhi 2.

Shamili, who played ‘Anjali’ in Mani Ratnam’s Anjali (1990), made her debut as a heroine in the Telugu film Oy! (2009) opposite Siddharth, but the film was a failure at the box office. Shamili is actress Shalini’s younger sibling.
Directed by Lingusamy, Sandakozhi 2 is a sequel to Sandakozhi, an important film in both Lingusamy and Vishal’s career. Actress Meera Jasmine, who played the lead role in the prequel, has a cameo performance in the sequel. Actors Soori, Rajkiran and music director D Imman are on board the Sandakozhi 2 team.
