Shershaah: Indian Chief of Army Staff Praises the Film for its Realistic Portrayal of the Kargil War

The Chief of Army Staff, General MM Naravane praised the Hindi biographical drama, Shershaah, for its realistic portrayal of the 1999 Kargil War. Based on the life of the late war veteran Captain Vikram Batra, the film stars Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani in the lead.

Sharing the General’s letter on Instagram, the film’s producer Shabbir Boxwala said, “Humbled and beyond delighted to have received such high praise for Shershaah from our Chief of the Army Staff, Gen. Naravane. Our years of hard work have paid off. Long live Vikram Batra. Long live the Indian Army!”

In his letter, the Chief of Army staff wrote, “It was a memorable and nostalgic experience attending the premiere of the movie based on Capt. Vikram Batra PVC and interacting with the cast and crew of the movie. I appreciate the genuine efforts made by the entire crew in depicting realistic battle scenes of the Kargil war and the espirit-de-corps of the Indian Army.”

He also noted that the movie, like other war films, will serve as a motivation for all.

Shershaah was released on Amazon Prime Video on August 12 and has become the highest-rated Hindi film on IMDB. The film currently holds a rating of 8.9 out of 10.

Speaking to Silverscreen India before the release of the film, director Vishnuvardhan said, “We have only seen footage of the Kargil war so I had to do my homework. It was very important for us to know what actually happened on the field… So I met with a lot of officers who had fought in the war. It took me a couple of months to meet all of them.”

The director also revealed that he will be collaborating with the film’s producer Dharma Productions again.

Meanwhile, Sidharth Malhotra will be seen in the upcoming Hindi film Mission Majnu alongside Rashmika Mandanna, while Kiara Advani will appear in Jug Jugg Jeeyo, Bhool Bulaiyaa 2, and in actor Ram Charan’s 15th film.
