Mammootty is currently shooting in Wayanad for his upcoming film Unda. Directed by Khalid Rahman of Anuraga Karikkin Vellam fame, the movie will see the actor in the role of a sub inspector.
Unda, which went on floors in October, is about a troop of police officers deployed in a Naxal affected area as part of election duties. The crew will shift to Chattisgarh after shooting in Wayanad for three weeks, reports IE.
The cast of the movie includes Shine Tom Chacko, Sudhi Koppa, Jacob Gregory, Dileesh Pothan, Alencier and Omkar Das Manikpuri.
Billed as a comedy entertainer, Unda will also have action sequences. Bollywood stuntman Sham Kaushal has been roped in as the stunt director. Kaushal has worked with Mammootty in the past too. “I’m working with him after 22 long years. He is one of the greatest actors in Indian cinema, and he has got that same energy he had back then,” says the veteran stuntman who has worked on movies like Dangal, Dhoom 3 and Bajirao Mastani.
Talking about the movie to CE, he says, “This is not a larger-than-life story; it’s honest with realistic situations and, naturally, demanded real action. There is nothing over-the-top (as in Dabangg). The whole thing takes place in one location. What would happen when a few men are pitted against many? That’s the essence of the conflict here.”
“It has more to do with the characters’ willpower and confidence. Sometimes you have to summon power from within you that you thought never existed,” Kaushal says while sharing that Mammootty performed all his stunts by himself.
Unda is jointly produced by Gemini Studios and Krishnan Sethukumarr under the banner of Moviee Mill. Gavemic U Ary, who worked on movies like Jigarthanda and Bareily Ki Barfi, is the cinematographer on the project. Prashanth Pillai is the music composer. He scored music for Rahman’s previous film too.
Unda is scheduled to release in May.
