Shraddha Srinath Joins Vishal For ‘Irumbu Thirai’ Sequel

Shraddha Srinath will be replacing Samantha as the female lead in the sequel of Irumbu Thirai, starring Vishal as the protagonist. Sources confirm that PS Mithran will not return as the director of the sequel.

“Shraddha is on board and the shoot begins this week,” a source close to the film said. Newcomer Anand, a former associate of director Ezhil, will be directing the sequel. While details about Shraddha’s role are yet to be announced, the word in the industry is that she plays a cop while Vishal reprises his role as an army officer in the film. Composer Yuvan Shankar Raja is likely to work on the sequel too. An official title is yet to be announced.

The film was expected to begin last month, but it was confirmed that shoot will begin only in May after Vishal returns from Turkey where he was filming for his upcoming Sundar C project.

Irumbu Thirai was PS Mithran’s first directorial. The film dealt with cyber security and took on the central government’s data privacy and digital India initiatives. Samantha starred as a therapist and Arjun Sarja played the antagonist. The film went on to became a hit at the box office, and a sequel was announced months later. Vishal’s production house is likely to bankroll the new film too.

The actor is currently wrapping up the shoot of his Sundar C film, which co-stars Tamannaah Bhatia. The movie is said to be heavy on action sequences, choreographed by Anbariv. Vishal was injured recently while filming in Turkey. He was reportedly tossed along with a bike, shocking the entire cast and crew. He sustained minor injuries on his hands and legs and rejoined shoot in a few days.

Meanwhile, Shraddha Srinath was last seen in debut director Barath Neelakantan’s K13, which had her paired opposite Arulnithi Tamilarasu. She is currently awaiting the release of Nerkonda Paarvai which is a remake of Pink and features Ajith Kumar reprising Amitabh Bachchan from the original. The film, directed by H Vinoth, is expected to release on August 10, 2019.
