Sivakarthikeyan, whose last release Seema Raja got a lukewarm response from the audience, has signed a new film with director PS Mithran.
Mithran, whose last directorial venture was Irumbu Thirai with Vishal and Samantha Akkineni in the lead, told Silverscreen said that his next film will also be a racy thriller with a social message. Irumbu Thirai was a science fiction thriller focusing on data privacy and the central government’s Digital India initiatives.
Saying that his films are by-products of his anger and frustration on the ills of society, Mithran said, “I don’t make films for the society. When I see something wrong is happening in the society, it triggers something inside and my stories are born out of it. Basically, I’m an angry young man. I have a lot of anger and frustration on what is happening around and my way of venting out is to write stories and make films about it. I don’t want to make a film which is socially conscious. I make films because I’m socially conscious.”
Talking about working with Sivakarthikeyan, he said, “We have known each other since 2010 when we had worked on a short film. We have always wanted to make a film together, but it never took off because Irumbu Thirai got delayed – we had started filming in 2016 and it only released in 2018. Sivakarthikeyan and I started discussing the new project after the release of Irumbu Thirai.”
Pre-production work on the film has started. “We will decide on the rest of the cast and crew after the script is finalised. Production will begin next year.”
Meanwhile, Sivakarthikeyan has already started shooting for his next film with director Ravi Kumar of Netru Indru Naalai fame. Pegged to be a science fiction, the film will be made on a big budget and is expected to release next year. He has also teamed up with director M Rajesh for a comedy drama, starring Nayanthara in the lead.
