Sivakarthikeyan’s ‘Hero’ In A Title Clash With Vijay Deverakonda’s Sports Film

Sivakarthikeyan At The 'Kanaa' Success Meet

Actor Sivakarthikeyan and director PS Mithran’s Hero, which recently began shoot, ran into a controversy after director Anand Annamalai claimed that the title belonged to his film. He said that he had registered it with the Tamil Film Producers’ Council (TFPC) a year back.

Debut director Anand Annamalai, who has worked as a dialogue writer for the Tamil film Kaaka Muttai, is said to be directing a Tamil, Telugu and Kannada multilingual starring Vijay Deverakonda in the lead. It is pitched as a sports drama with the same title, and will be produced on a huge budget by Mytri Movie Makers. As per reports, the actor will play a bike racer in the film and is currently getting trained in racing in Chennai.

Claiming that the title belonged to him, Anand Annamalai said, “Currently I’m directing a film with Vijay Deverakonda, which will go on floors next month. Our title Hero was registered in the Tamil Film Producers Council a year back and we have proof for it. But it is shocking to see the announcement of Sivakarthikeyan’s film with the same title. We are not ready to sacrifice the title for anyone and have written a letter to the Producers Council.”

Meanwhile, a letter issued by the TFPC has been doing the rounds. It certifies KJR Studios, the producers of Sivakarthikeyan’s film, as having registered for the title in February this year.

Sivakarthikeyan’s new film with director PS Mithran went on floors recently.

The shooting for the film is currently happening in Chennai. The film stars Arjun Sarja, who played a villain in Mithran’s debut film Irumbu Thirai, as the antagonist yet again. Ivana will also be seen in a pivotal role. Produced by RD Raja under the banner 24 AM Studios, the music for the film is composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, and cinematography by George C Williams. Antony L Ruben is the editor.

On the work front, Sivakarthikeyan has two other films in production currently. Mr Local with director M Rajesh, of Siva Manasula Sakthi fame, is gearing up for release on May 1. He has a big-budget science fiction film with Rakul Preet Singh, directed by Ravi Kumar of Netru Indru Naalai fame. He has also signed a film with director Pandiraj, which will be produced by Sun Pictures, and is tentatively titled SK16.
