Director-turned-actor SJ Surya’s next – Isai – was touted to be a film on the alleged rivalry between AR Rahman and Ilaiyaraaja. In an interview to Deccan Chronicle though, SJ Surya dismissed the rumours. He added that the flick is indeed about the competition between two composers, but it’s not based on the legendary musicians.
Surya revealed that he had approached AR Rahman to compose music for Isai, but Rahman had wanted Surya to handle the music himself. Although Surya is equipped enough to compose, he credited AR Rahman for helping him discover the composer in him.
Isai has Surya and debutante Savithri in the lead while Sathyaraj plays an integral role.
