Sobhita Dhulipala Promotes Goodachari

Actor Sobhita Dhulipala, who has to her credit acclaimed films and web series such as Raman Raghav 2.0, Amazon Prime’s Made In Heaven and Geetu Mohandas’ Moothon, is part of Kurup, a crime drama directed by Srinath Rajendran. Dulquer Salmaan plays the protagonist in the film, which is a period drama based on the real story of Sukumara Kurup, a fugitive who escaped from the police after burning to death a man named Chacko in 1984. The film’s cast includes Indrajith Sukumaran, Shine Tom Chacko and Krrish.

The story of Sukumara Kurup has made it to Malayalam pop-culture many times before. In 1984, NH47, a thriller directed by Baby, was based on the murder of Chacko, and Kurup’s abscodence. TG Ravi played Kurup in the film. In 2015, Adoor Gopalakrishnan loosely adapted the story for his film Pinneyum, in which Dileep played the protagonist who goes into hiding after murdering a stranger. The legendary case keeps returning to the public sphere time and again, with people claiming that they have spotted Kurup’s lookalikes in different places.

Srinath entered the film industry with Second Show (2012), which also launched Dulquer’s acting career. Post the success of the low-budget gangster-drama, Srinath made Koothara (2014), a coming-of-age drama that failed to make a mark at the box-office.

Dulquer was last seen in Oru Yamandan Prema Kadha, a comedy-entertainer that marked his return to Malayalam films after over a year. Last year, he made his debut in Telugu with Mahanati, a biopic of actress Savitri, in which he played Gemini Ganesan, the actress’ lover and husband. Dulquer, who has been expanding his market beyond South India, will be next seen in The Zoya Factor, a romantic-comedy in which Sonam Kapoor plays the titular protagonist. It releases on September 20. In 2018, Dulquer made his debut in Hindi with the critically-acclaimed road movie Karwaan, directed by Akarsh Khurana, and co-starring Irrfan, Mithila Palkar and Amala Akkineni.

Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal, a Tamil rom-com directed by Desingh Periyasamy, in which Dulquer and Ritu Varma play the lead roles, is also set to release this year.
