Sonam Kapoor has had a brilliant run at the box office this year with her stellar performance in the biopic, Neerja. In the run-up to the awards season, Kapoor has been nominated for several awards.
At one such ceremony held recently, Sonam was given the Best Actress award, beating actress Alia Bhatt, who was nominated for her performance in Udta Punjab.
As per a report in DNA, the actress’ acceptance speech did not go down well with the attendees. Sonam Kapoor is believed to have said, “I have to thank the terrorists and passengers for this award!”
Neerja, directed by Ram Madhvani, is the real-life story of Pan Am Air Hostess Neerja Bhanot who rescued several men and women on-board the hijacked Pan Am Flight 73. She was shot dead by terrorists, and was hailed as a National Hero.
For Sonam, who played Neerja in the film, to have made light of such an incident is insensitive. Both to memory of the courageous Neerja, as well as the families of the grieving victims.
