Song of The Day – Mogathirai

Song: Mogathirai

Film: Pizza

The Artists:

Singer – Pradeep Kumar

Recommended

Composer – Santhosh Narayanan

Lyricist – Kabilan

Starring – Vijay Sethupathi, Ramya Nambeesan

The Setting: Vijay Sethupathi and Remya Nambeesan celebrate their marriage by cutting a ‘wedding pizza’, and dancing in the rain.

The Film: A faux ghost film that eventually turns into one, Pizza marked director Karthik Subbaraj’s debut. The success of the film established Vijay Sethupathi as a sort of indie movie star, and he went on to collaborate with Karthik for two more films.

The Song: Moga (passion). Thirai (screen). A veil of passion and love keeps Michael (Vijay Sethupathi) and Anu (Remya Nambeesan) separate from the rest of the world. As they bask in the glow of their forthcoming parenthood – and some cold, hard cash – a beautiful violin and guitar piece plays in the background, made perfect by Pradeep Kumar’s singing. Kabilan, who regularly collaborates with Santhosh Narayanan, is at his lyrical best here, capturing the essence of Michael and Anu’s chaotic, passionate relationship.

Theendum Dhinam Thendral Manam

Koonthal Izhai Veneer Mazhai

The song reaches a crescendo when Pradeep Kumar sings Un Kaathalal Ennul Nooru Kana (your love invokes a hundred dreams) and we know that Michael, the man who’d disavowed regular commitment till then, had changed. Marriage grounded him; fatherhood made him dream of a better life.
