‘Star’ among the First Few Malayalam Films to Release in Theatres Post Reopening

Star, the upcoming Malayalam film starring Joju George, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Sheelu Abraham and Gayathri Ashok, will be among the first few films to release as soon as the theatres reopen in Kerala, the film’s project designer Badusha NM announced on social media on Wednesday.

Produced by Abraham Mathew under the Abaam Movies banner, the film has written by Suvin Somashekaran and directed by Domin D’Silva.

The announcement regarding Star’s theatrical release comes a day after Culture Minister Saji Cherian announced that the government will consider reopening theatres in the next phase. Noting that the test positivity rate (TPR) is reducing, the minister said that it is a relief for the State and that they will take a final call on reopening of theatres and auditoriums as soon as possible.

Besides Star, a number of films are planning their release dates anticipating the reopening. Ajagajantharam, the upcoming Malayalam action film starring Antony Varghese, will release during the Pooja holidays in around 300 theatres. The lead actor shared the announcement on his social media handle. Pooja holidays mark the 9-day Hindu festival that would begin on October 7 this year and the last day of the festival would be on October 15. It is customary for films to release during this period.

Directed by Tinu Pappachan, the film has been produced by Emmanuel Joseph and Ajith Thalapilly. Besides Varghese, it also features Vinod Jose, Sabumon Abdusamad, and Arjun Ashokan. The makers of the film postponed the release of the film in March 2021, indefinitely due to the lack of second shows in Kerala.

Actor Dulquer Salmaan on Wednesday took to his social media handle to clear the air about the release of his upcoming film KurupIn the post, he said that there is a lot of fake information has been spreading about the release of the film. The audience will get to watch the film when the time is right, he said. He added that rumours regarding several stars making cameos in the film were untrue too.“I would sincerely request you to stop propagating this information. It isn’t fair to the fans of our stars to have expectations and for us to disappoint them,” he added.

Filmmaker Unnikrishnan B who has directed and co-produced the Mohanlal-starrer Aaraattu, an upcoming Malayalam action-drama film, noted that the news about the film releasing in October is false. He added that they have not decided on the film’s release date yet.
