At the audio launch of Rani, the film’s composer Ilaiyaraaja was praised in a rather bizarre manner. Director Karu Palaniappan, in a long rather winded speech, asked the music composer to make music just like his son Yuvan Shankar Raja. He said, “I saw a YouTube video where I saw you (Ilaiyaraaja) set tune to the ‘Maanguyile’ song in the way your son would. I feel that one of these days, you should compose for an entire film like that.”
He also said that an event must be held to celebrate Ilaiyaraaja’s genius. The sentiment was immediately applauded and praised.
In response, director Perarasu said, “Even if 1000 Yuvan Shankar Raja’s come and go, they won’t equal the genius of Ilaiyaraaja.”
As this drama unfolded onstage, the object of all this conversation kept quiet, and made no attempt to respond. He did thank them all for their kind words, however.
