Sudha Kongara: I Used To Make Dubbing Artist Uma Scream Everyday

Irudhi Suttru‘s director Sudha Kongara Prasad says she made dubbing artist Uma scream for two hours daily to bring out the rough edges to Ritika’s character’s voice. Speaking at the success meet of the film yesterday, Sudha said, “I used to make dubbing artist Uma scream for two hours daily in the morning. The idea was to make her voice sound a little harsh and bring out the coarseness in her voice.” The director, who Madhavan said was the toughest person on sets, was moved to tears at the overwhelmingly positive response to her film in both the Hindi and Tamil industries.

Sudha’s technique seems to have been effective, as Uma’s voice has been appreciated for being a perfect complement to Ritika’s acting. Dialogue writer Arun said, “I had to teach all the dialogues one by one and had to make sure she was well prepped before the shoot began. We even taught her profane words to provide authenticity to her role.”

Irudhi Suttru (Saala Khadoos in Hindi) stars R Madhavan, debutant actresses Ritika Singh and Mumtaz Sorcar.
