“The film will star actor Sunny Deol in the lead role and I will be directing the Hindi version. The pre-production works are underway. We are planning to commence the shoot next year between January and March in Jaipur, Rajasthan,” Padmakumar said.

Joseph, the Malayalam film, had actor Joju George playing the titular character, “a retired police officer, who is known for his investigative prowess“, who gets unexpectedly “pulled into a criminal case involving organ harvesting” after the death of his ex-wife.

Actors Athmiya Rajan, Dileesh Pothan, Irshad Ali, Johny Antony and Sudhi Koppa also played pivotal characters in the film. Joseph, written by Shahi Kabir, garnered positive reviews from both critics and the audience. The lead actor, Joju George, in addition to winning a special mention at the National Awards, also won the Kerala State Film Awards for the best character actor for the role.

Deol will be reprising Joju George’s role in the Hindi version. Further details regarding the cast and crew of the Hindi remake are yet to be announced by the makers.

According to a Pinkvilla report, the Hindi remake of Joseph will be produced by Kamal Mukut.

A source told the publication that when Mukut approached Deol to feature in the remake of Joseph, the latter had one request, to keep the film “as gritty and real, as the Malayalam original”.

Apart from being remade in Hindi, Joseph is also getting a Tamil remake titled Visithiran, starring RK Suresh and a Kannada remake titled Ravi Bopanna, starring V Ravichandran.
