The shooting of upcoming Tamil film Bruce Lee, starring GV Prakash and Kriti Kharbanda, has been wrapped up. The film, directed by debutant Prashant Pandiyaraj, was launched last year. It is aiming for a September-end release. The film’s audio and trailer launch is expected to take place soon.

Bruce Lee is a romantic comedy set against the backdrop of a college. The film was initially titled Baasha Engira Antony, a direct reference to Rajinikanth’s film Baashha (1995). The director, however, did not get the required permission from Baashha‘s makers to use the name in the title. “As GV’s character in the film is named Bruce Lee, we have used that as the film’s title. While Baasha Engira Antony would have created sensation, now the makers are convinced with this new title,” said Pandiyaraj.

The film also marks Kriti Kharbanda’s debut in Tamil cinema. Kriti began her career through the 2009 Telugu film Boni. Kharbanda also acted in the original Telugu film Bruce Lee The Fighter (2015) alongside Ram Charan, Rakul Preet Singh, and Arun Vijay.

Composer-turned-actor GV Prakash had recently admitted that he wanted to do only the films that entertain the audience. His last film, Ennaku Innoru Per Irukku (EIPI), was released in June this year. EIPI was GV Prakash’s first film this year after Trisha Illana Nayanthara and Darling from last year.

Bruce Lee is produced by Kenanya Films, with music composed by GV Prakash himself. Actor Silambarasan has sung a kuthu (folk) song in the film.
