“Tamilselvanum Thaniyar Anjalum, Not A Remake Of Premium Rush”, Says Director

Recently released Tamilselvanum Thaniyar Anjalum has been likened to the Hollywood movie Premium Rush starring Joseph Gordon Levitt. But debutant director Prem Sai, while talking to Indian Express, said, “The movie is not a remake of the English film, Premium Rush. It is purely coincidental that the protagonists in both the films play messengers”.

Tamilselvanum Thaniyar Anjalum has actor Jai and actress Yami Gautam of Vicky Donor fame, in the lead roles. The movie was released last week. The movie is about a courier (played by Jai) who is entrusted with delivering a parcel. But his everyday job goes awry when a gang of villains also hunt for the same parcel.

The plot is quite similar to the English movie in which the protagonist also plays a messenger. His routine delivery turns into a dangerous chase when some police officers want to get their hands on the parcel.

In response to these allegations, director Prem told IANS that he registered his script in 2011 and Premium rush released only in late 2012. There was no way he could have lifted the script of the movie. “Apart from the fact that the protagonists in both the films are messengers, nothing else is similar,” he said.

He also added that these allegations have risen since there are very few films in Tamil cinema in which the protagonist has played a courier.
