‘Top Gear’ Ratings Rise After Matt LeBlanc Threatens To Quit

Top Gear, the British television series about motor vehicles and cars has finally witnessed a rise in TV ratings ever since Matt LeBlanc joined R J Chris Evans as the host of the show in May this year. After the controversial ousting of Top Gear’s longest serving host Jeremy Clarkson, Friends actor Matt LeBlanc and radio personality Chris Evans, were roped in to host the show.

After reportedly threatening to leave the show if Evans was not fired, Matt LeBlanc had spent much of the weekend denying the rumours. This, in turn, triggered a massive increase in TV ratings, increasing by 300,000 views with a total of 2.68 million viewers.

Still far below its last week’s record of 4.3 million, and less than the 6.42 million views during the launch of the season, the show’s increase in ratings was mostly because of the drama that ensued involved LeBlanc’s quitting, reports The Guardian.

The latest episode which featured Great British Bake Off judge Paul Hollywood and Ab Fab star Jennifer Saunders, peaked at 3 million views, which is still around half the size of the audience for the least-watched episodes during Clarkson’s time as host.

Meanwhile, the sixth and final season of the show will be aired on Monday night, nearly an hour and a half earlier depending on England’s football match with Iceland for the UEFA Euro 2016.
