The film has been directed by Sam Anton who has previously helmed films like Darling (2015) and Gurkha (2019). Trigger has been produced by Prateek Chakravorty and Shruti Nallappa under the banner of Pramod Films and Miracle Movie. The film will be marking the second collaboration of the director with the actor after the duo previously worked in the 2019 action film 100, which featured Atharvaa as a police officer.

Speaking to Silverscreen India, Sam Anton that the film is an action thriller and the story revolves around a father and son. “When the father, a former police officer cannot solve a certain case, the son steps in take it up. We have kept the title as Trigger because at a certain moment, it is up to the father to decide if he pulls the trigger of the gun or not.”

While Arun Pandian will be playing the father, Atharvaa essays the role of the son. “Actor Seetha plays the mother. After 25 years, she is back on screen paired with Arun Pandian. Others such as Anubuthasan, Aranthangi Nisha, Munishkath have done the role of funny cops. Krishna and Chinni Jayanth also play prominent roles,” he added.

Sam who wrote the script in 2020 said that despite the plethora of police films that have come, he has always wanted to do a story on undercover cops. The filmmaker explained, “The father character’s is past his glory years. I wanted an action hero from the 90s. That is how Arun Pandian came onboard”.
