Produced by Suji K Govindraj and Rajeesh Valanchery under the banner of Spark Pictures, Vaathil is directed by Sarju Remakanth from a script written by Shamnad Shabeer.

Director Sarju told Silverscreen India that Vaathil is “a semi thriller film” set in a family backdrop. “The first half of the story will be established in the family setting and there will be thriller elements after the intermission,” he said.

The filmmaker added that Forrt and Sithara play a husband and wife who run an interior design shop, while Krishna Sankar plays the role of a staff member who works at the couple’s shop.

Vaathil also features actors Rachana Narayanankutty, Sunil Sughada, Merin Philip, Unni Raj, Abin Bino, VK Byju, Pouli, Anjali Nair, and Sminu.

Sarju also noted that Vaathil is a “socially-conscious film that will be relevant to present societal situations and family dynamics.”

The film has been shot by cinematographer Manesh Madhavan. “We began the first schedule’s shoot on March 15 in Thiruvananthapuram and earlier this week we shot in Ernakulam for a day, with which the filming is now complete. The film is currently in the post-production stage,” said Sarju.

Vaathil’s technical crew includes editor John Kutty, music composer Sejo John, and art director Sabu Ram.

On the film’s release, the director said that due to the prevailing uncertainty over the reopening of theatres in Kerala in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, the team may consider a direct-to-OTT release as well.
