Valimai’s makers have remained tight-lipped about the film’s release.

Tapping the potential reach of Ajith’s fans, Tiruppur’s District Collector Vijayakarthikeyan K shared an election awareness poster using the play of words. In Tamil, Valimai means strength and Mai means ink. Urging people to vote, Vijayakarthikeyan K shared a poster that read, “The strength [Valimai] of a democracy lies in the vote cast by each one of you.”

With the post soon becoming viral on social media, many first-time voters commented and assured that they would exercise their franchise.

Valimai, directed by H Vinoth, is produced by Hindi filmmaker Boney Kapoor. In February, Kapoor tweeted that the team was working towards presenting the film’s first look and requested fans to be patient. Fans, however, have been seeking updates about the film, from asking Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisami during his election campaign to cricketer Ashwin R during a Test match. This resulted in Ajith issuing a statement, asking his fans to maintain decorum at public spaces. He had added that an announcement would be made at the right time.

Polls in Tamil Nadu will be conducted in 234 constituencies across 38 districts in a single phase on April 6. The polls, whose results will be declared on May 2, will be the first Legislative Assembly election that will be conducted in the state after the demises of former chief ministers M Karunanidhi and J Jayalalithaa. It is also the first legislative election for actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan and his party Makkal Needhi Maaim.
