Sundar Balu has announced his second film titled Kannitheevu. The film stars four actors – Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Bigg Boss fame Aishwarya Dutta, Ashna Zaveri, and Subhiksha, who was seen in Kadugu. The makers are reportedly in talks with a male star to play the antagonist.
Director Sundar Balu told Silverscreen, “This is a crime thriller and adventure film. We’ve seen many heroes in a film before, but here the four heroines will be the heroes. One leading male actor will play the antagonist. We will reveal more details soon.”
“This is my first film that is performance oriented; I have stunts to do, we will be travelling,”said Aishwarya Dutta. “This gives me so much scope. I can’t reveal much about the story, but I can say that Tamil cinema has not had a story like this. All four women have strong characters to play. They’re bold characters, and show what women can do.”
The film has cinematography by Chitti Babu, music by Arrol Corelli and editing by Lawrence Kishore. It is being produced by Sundar Balu, under his Krithika Productions.
Shoot for the film began this week. The second part of schedule has long portions, so the release date has not been set yet. Director Sundar also confirmed that the film is not related to the Kannitheevu island from Sinbad The Sailor story.
Sundar Balu’s debut directorial Garjanai, starring Trisha and Amit Bhargav in the lead, is yet to release. It is inspired by Navdeep Singh’s Hindi film NH10 starring Anushka Sharma. The film has been in production since January 2017.
Actor Varalaxmi Sarathkumar has Velvet Nagaram, Shakthi, Ammayi, Kanni Raasi, Kaatteri and Neeya 2 coming up. She reportedly plays strong women characters in all these films. She recently began shoot for Danny, by debut director Santhanamoorthy. The cinematographer-turned-filmmaker PG Muthiah is producing the film. Varalaxmi will also soon make her Telugu debut with Tenali Rama Krishna BA BL, directed by Nageshwar Reddy.

Ashna Zaveri was last seen in the 2018 films Nagesh Thiraiyarangam and Evanukku Engeyo Matcham Irukku. She is currently filming for Titanic, written and directed by M Janakiraman, produced by CV Kumar. The film also stars Kalaiyarasan, Anandhi, and Varma Ramaswamy in the lead.
The Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu actor Subhiksha was last seen in a supporting role in Vijay Milton’s Goli Soda 2, starring Samuthirakani, Gautham Menon, Barath Seeni, Vinoth and Esakki Barath. Nethraa, the Tamil thriller directed and co-produced by A Venkatesh stars Subhiksha in the lead with Vinay, Thaman Kumar in the film. The film is currently under production.
