Veteran Actor Dilip Kumar Undergoing Treatment For Recurrent Pneumonia

Veteran actor Dilip Kumar was admitted to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai earlier this week. The 95-year-old actor, who has been ailing for some time, was hospitalised due to recurrent pneumonia.

An announcement was made regarding this in his social media account. Faisal Farooqui, a close friend of the family who is managing the account for Dilip Kumar, made the announcement.

A spokesperson for the hospital confirmed that Dilip Kumar was responding to treatment and is ‘stable’ now.

“He (Dilip Kumar) is stable now. There is nothing to worry about,” Ajay Kumar, Vice President of the Lilavati Hospital said.

This is the second time in as many months that the actor has had to be hospitalised for his health issues. He was taken to the hospital in September this year due to a brief illness.

Later, Dilip’s wife Saira Babu, told  NDTV, that the actor was recuperating at home. “He is alright. He has come back from hospital and is recuperating at home as he had two bouts of pneumonia. He is with his doctor and nursing staff. He is getting better by god’s grace.”

Saira also took the opportunity to dismiss reports about his failing health. “Who says that? I would not give that any cognizant at all. All is well, all is fine and nothing of this sort,” she told PTI.

Dilip Kumar has been in and out of the hospital the past few years. In late 2017, he was diagnosed with mild pneumonia. A few months later, he was admitted to the hospital for kidney-related ailment.

Dilip Kumar, made his debut in Jwar Bhata in 1944. He was was honoured with the Padma Vibhushan in 2015 and was last seen in Qilla (1998) alongside actors Rekha, Mamta Kulkarni and Mukul Dev. He is popularly known for his roles in Arzoo (1965), Footpath (1953), Devdas (1935), Mughal-e-Azam (1960), Naya Daur (1957), Kohinoor (1960), Ganga Jamuna (1961) and Dharm Adhikari (1986).
