Veteran Film Editor TR Sekar Dies Of Cardiac Arrest, He Was 81

One of the most celebrated editors of the Indian film industry with work spanning over 50 years and 200 films, TR Sekar, aged 81, passed away today. The cause of death is reported as cardiac arrest.

He was the editor of India’s first-ever 3D film, My Dear Kutty Chaattan, followed by South India’s first ever cinemascope film, Thacholi Ambu and South India’s first-ever 70 mm film, Padaiyaattam.

His work spreads across Malayalam and Tamil cinema. A frequent collaborator with director Fazil in Malayalam and Tamil, TR Sekar has worked in almost all of Fazil’s movies.

He won the Kerala State Government award for his work in Onnu Mudhal Poojyam Varai. Sekar received his first Tamil Nadu State Government Award for Varusham 16 in 1989. His last movie was the  2008 comedy Tamil film, Sadhu Miranda written and directed by Siddique.

He is survived by his wife Sundari and three daughters Deepa Lakshmi, Thilakavathy and Nithya. His funeral will take place at 5 PM, today in Trichy.
