VHP Workers Hurl Stones At Shah Rukh Khan’s Car

At least seven members of the right-wing organisation Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) were detained in Ahmedabad on Sunday, for hurling stones at Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan’s car.

According to a PTI report, the car was parked at the parking lot of a luxury hotel in the city, where the shooting of Khan’s upcoming movie Raees is underway. The attack is seen as an extension of the protests against the actor for his earlier remarks on the rising intolerance in the country. The 50-year-old actor was not there in the hotel at the time of the attack.

An FIR for rioting and damaging property was filed in this regard in the evening. Later, the Gujarat unit of VHP claimed responsibility for the incident, and the outfit’s State spokesperson Raju Patel said the detained persons are associated with VHP.  Last week, VHP had handed over a memorandum to Bhuj district officers, demanding the withdrawal of the permission given for the shooting Raees in the state. They protested outside the district Collector’s office, shouted slogans against the actor and burnt his posters.

In November 2015, Khan had said during an interview that there was “growing intolerance” in India. Right-wing organisation members from across the country launched a protest against the actor for his comment.
