Following numerous speculations about a sequel to the 2012 hit Vicky Donor, a producer has finally come on board for the project. Anand Pandit, the producer of the latest Ajay Devgn-starrer Total Dhamaal has acquired the title Vicky Donor 2.
According to reports, John Abraham, who bankrolled the original movie, was upset with co-producer Eros Now. After the movie’s success, the two had disputes regarding profit sharing. “While John never spoke about the reason for the disagreement, it was being said that he was not happy with the share of profits given to him. So, John did not want to do the sequel with them,” said a trade source, according to AsianAge.
“Now, Anand Pandit has come on board and has acquired the title Vicky Donor 2 under his banner,” added the source.
Vicky Donor, directed by Shoorjit Sircar, became a sleeper hit of the year. The movie was written by Juhi Chaturvedi, and was about a man from Delhi who donates sperms for a living. It marked the acting debut of Ayushmann Khurana and Yami Gautham. The supporting cast included Annu Kapoor and Dolly Ahluwalia, who both won the National Awards. The film also won the National Award for the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.
Ayushmann Khurana has always expressed interest in a sequel. When asked about it in 2013, the actor said, “I would love to do Vicky Donor 2. Vicky Donor has given me everything. If (director) Shoojit Sircar and (screenplay writer) Juhi are ready with a script which is equally quirky I would love to do it. I don’t think I have a ready audience yet. It wholly depends on the script and the film.”
Shoojit Sircar and Juhi Chaturvedi have since made successful films like Piku and October.
