Pichaikkaran was an action thriller. In the film an affluent businessman Arul foregoes his exquisite lifestyle and turns beggar as a sacrifice for his comatose mother. The film proved a turning point in Vijay Antony’s career. While it received mixed reviews from critics and audiences it turned out to be a hit at the box office. Satna Titus was the female lead along with Bagavathi Perumal, ‘Vazhakku En’ Muthuraman, and Dheepa Ramanujam in significant roles. The film was helmed by director Sasi and bankrolled by the lead actor’s home banner.
The Telugu dubbed version Bitchagadu was arguably the biggest hit in Tollywood in 2016. It helped create a market for Vijay’s films in Tollywood.
