Vijay Antony’s ‘VAP10’ Is Now ‘Pichaikkaran 2’; ‘Baaram’ Fame Priya Krishnaswamy To Helm The Project

A few days back, Vijay Antony revealed that he would be announcing his next production, a sequel, in which he will also play the lead role. He also announced that he would be associating with a National award-winning director for the same.

While rumours that his films Kolaigaran, Naan, Pichaikkaran, and Thimiru Pudichavan had the potential for a second installment surfaced, Pichaikkaran has made the cut. The sequel, Pichaikkaran 2, will be directed by Baaram fame Priya Krishnaswamy. It is being bankrolled by Vijay Antony’s wife, Fatima Vijay Antony under their Vijay Antony Pictures banner.

The poster features a back shot of Vijay Antony in front of a crowd with a streak of lightning on the side. While Vijay Antony is seen in a brown coat, the crowd is in monochrome. The Pichaikkaran font is embellished with pieces of gold and the 2 with diamonds. A crown can also be found with the title.

Pichaikkaran was an action thriller. In the film an affluent businessman Arul foregoes his exquisite lifestyle and turns beggar as a sacrifice for his comatose mother. The film proved a turning point in Vijay Antony’s career. While it received mixed reviews from critics and audiences it turned out to be a hit at the box office. Satna Titus was the female lead along with Bagavathi Perumal, ‘Vazhakku En’ Muthuraman, and Dheepa Ramanujam in significant roles. The film was helmed by director Sasi and bankrolled by the lead actor’s home banner.

The Telugu dubbed version Bitchagadu was arguably the biggest hit in Tollywood in 2016. It helped create a market for Vijay’s films in Tollywood.

Though talks have been on for a sequel to Pichaikkaran since 2016, and Vijay Antony had mentioned that the announcement will be made in 2018, the official announcement has come only now. There was also buzz that Vijay Antony might make his Bollywood debut with the Hindi remake of Pichaikkaran and was said to be in talks with Fox Star Studios for the project.

Pichaikkaran 2 will have Theni Eashwar on cinematography, K Arusamy on art, and Vijay Antony on music. Brindha and Kalyan will be choreographing dance for the film.

Pichaikkaran 2 will hit screens in 2021 along with the Telugu dubbed version Bitchagadu 2.

Meanwhile, Vijay Antony who was last seen in Andrew LouisKolaigaran will next feature in Babu Yogeswaran’s Thamilarasan, Naveen M‘s Agni Siragugal, and A Senthilkumar’s KhakiThe crime-thriller is based on the Japanese novel The Devotion of Suspect X which was itself made into a film titled Suspect X.
