Vijay Sethupathi Begins Work On His 33rd; Teams With Up Amala Paul

Socially-conscious filmmaker SP Jananathan clapped the first shot of Vijay Sethupathi’s 33rd film, co-starring Amala Paul and an actress from abroad, in Palani today. The film, touted to be heavy on music, is directed by the ace director’s former assistant Venkata Krishna Roghanth, who worked on projects such as Peranmai and Purambokku Engira Podhuvudaimai; the latter starred Vijay Sethupathi. The team next heads to Ooty.

The film, temporarily titled VSP33, is produced by Chandra Arts’ Esakki Durai. A release from the team said that Vijay Sethupathi plays a musician, and the film will travel through a time period, including the festive occasions of Christmas and New Year. Besides love and music, the film also speaks about an issue that has troubled people at the international level, it added.

Roghanth handles the story, screenplay, dialogues and direction, cinematography is by Mahesh Muthuswamy, editing by Sathish Surya and music by the underrated Nivas K Prasanna. Art is by John Britto and stunts by Miracle Michael Raj.

Amala Paul, who has for release two much-expected films in the thriller and action genres, Rathna Kumar’s Aadai and Vinoth KR’s Adho Andha Paravai Pola, besides her ambitious production in Malayalam, Cadaver, plays a musician in this film. In fact, actress Riythvika has just been signed up to join the cast of Cadaver that sees Amala don the character of a forensic surgeon.

Vijay Sethupathi has SU Arun Kumar’s Sindhubaadh coming up on June 21. It is his third collaboration with Arun after Pannaiyaarum Padminiyum and Sethupathi. He is also headlining a bunch of films in Tamil such as Laabam and Kadaisi Vivasaayi, besides Marconi Mathai in Malayalam and the ensemble historical Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy in Telugu.

The actor’s latest release Super Deluxe, where he played transwoman Shilpa is doing the festival rounds now, and is to be screened at the 23rd Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival in Korea.
