Vijay Sethupathi’s first stint as a producer involves music maestro Ilaiyaraaja. And he is thrilled about it. Speaking at the audio launch of his upcoming film Merku Thodarchi Malai, Sethupathi was all praises for Ilaiyaraaja, the film’s official music composer.
“My name will go down in history, working with Ilaiyaraaja,” he declared. He was happier with the fact that he was seated next to him on stage at the event.

The film stars Antony, and Gayathri – best known for her performance in Joker. Directed by debutante Lenin Bharathy, the film has largely been successful at film festivals including the New York Indian International Festival and the International Film Festival of Kerala. Lenin Bharathy’s notable work include Aadhalal Kadhal Seiveer, where he was credited as the story-writer. He reportedly contributed for Azhagarsamiyin Kudhirai as well.
Sethupathi added that he was excited to be a part of this film. “In 2012, Lenin told me the story. I didn’t have money back then but I told him that I would make the film when I make it big in the industry. In fact, I didn’t even listen to the story, for I have immense confidence in him. He started doing his preparation and finally, it took off much later,” he said.
