Vimal will team up with director Sarkunam for a sequel to their film Kalavani. Speaking to Silverscreen, Vimal said that filming would been shortly. “Yes, it is true. Sarkunam is currently writing the script, so we’re waiting on that. Once it is over, we’ll immediately begin filming. Side by side, pre-production work is also going on.”
Kalavani (2010) was set in rural Thanjavur and charted the rivalry between two neighbouring villages. Vimal played Arivazhagan, an unemployed young man dedicated to spending his father’s money. The film was Sarkunam’s debut directorial, and turned out to be a moderate success. Made on a budget of Rs. 1.5 crore, Kalavani went on to gross approximately Rs 5 crore at the box-office.
Vimal is currently working on three other projects. He plays the male lead in Rajathandhiram director Amid’s next, a thriller. The film is expected to go on the floors soon.
He is also starring in a film with debutant director Siva. Produced by Suseenthiran, the film has music by Imman, cinematography by Vijay Milton and dialogues written by Vimal’s mentor Pandiraj.
Additionally, Vimal’s film with director Boopathy Pandian Mannar Vagera is in the pipeline. The film will release sometime in 2017.
Meanwhile, director Sarkunam is working on a film with actor R Madhavan.
