Vinay Pathak’s ‘Island City’ To Release In September

Director Ruchika Oberoi’s Island City, which features actor Vinay Pathak and actress Tannishtha Chatterjee, will release on 2 September. The film talks about the alienation and transition of time in the ever-growing island city of Mumbai, through a set of three stories: two black comedies and a tragic-comic love story.

“I have been in Mumbai for several years now. These are stories that I encountered here, mixed with my experiences, and the kind of black humour I gravitate towards,” 42-year-old Oberoi was quoted as saying by Indian Express. A graduate from Film And Television Institute Of India (FTII), Oberoi wrote the film in 2009, and started filming after she got funding through National Film Development Corporation of India’s (NFDC) Screenwriters Labs and Film Bazaar.

Island City had been selected at 26 international film festivals and has won top awards at five of them. It had its world premiere at the 72nd Venice Film Festival 2015 in the Venice Days section, and Oberoi had won the FEDEORA (Federation of Film Critics of Europe and the Mediterranean) Award for Best Debut Director.

The film, produced by National Film Development Corporation, will be distributed by Drishyam Films. It also features Amruta Subhash and Chandan Roy Sanyal.
