Vishal Adopts A Village In Cyclone-Hit Thanjavur

Actor Vishal has adopted a village in the district of Thanjavur, which was ravaged by the recent cyclone that hit Tamil Nadu. The actor, through a tweet, has promised that he would return Kaarkavaiyal to normalcy and turn it into a model village.

Cyclone Gaja hit the shores of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry last week, claiming the lives of 45 people and displacing close to 250,000 people to relief camps. The most affected districts are Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukottai, Dindigul, Trichy, Karur, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Cuddalore in Tamil Nadu, and Karaikal in Puducherry. The cyclone had also made its presence felt in the neighbouring state of Kerala where it destroyed close to 160 houses in the Alappuzha district.

The Tamil film fraternity has urged people to help the victims and contribute to the relief funds. Director Rajasekar, along with actors Sivakumar, Suriya and Jyotika were the first to offer aid, contributing Rs 50 lakh towards the relief fund. Vijay Sethupathi donated Rs 25 lakh worth of material while Sivakarthikeyan donated Rs 10 lakh to the Chief Minister’s relief fund.

Meanwhile, Rajinikanth issued a statement directing his Rajini Makkal Mandran to distribute Rs 50 lakh worth of relief material while Kamal Haasan has asked his newly formed political outfit Makkal Needhi Maiam  to extend on-ground support. Actor Vijay too, chipped in with Rs 40 lakh to the district presidents of Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, and issued directives to carry out relief work.

The Tamil Film Producers’ Council, which is chaired by actor Vishal, announced that it would be donating relief material worth Rs 25 lakhs to the victims.

Vishal. who has been coordinating relief activities on social media, had put out a flyer asking for help. He also asked the public to send relief material to his production company – Vishal Film Factory.

The first look of the actor’s upcoming movie, Ayogya, had stirred up a controversy for showing him holding a beer bottle.
