Kamal Haasan At Makkal Needhi Maiam's Women's Day Celebrations

Kamal Haasan, who has been vocal about the Cauvery Management Board issue between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, took to social media to make clear his stand. Taking a sarcastic jibe at the situation, Haasan said that there was an obvious divide between the Government and the people.

He added a clarification, too, with respect to his quip, before his statement could turn into an issue.

Vatal Nagaraj, the Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha leader, has called for a bandh in Karnataka on April 12, soon after a mild agitation with respect to the non-formation of the Cauvery Management Board.

Recently, Haasan, founder of political party Makkal Needhi Maiam addressed a gathering in Trichy about how the State government “cannot hallucinate” that it has fulfilled its duty towards the people.

On April 5 in Tamil Nadu, many took to the streets criticising the Centre for not forming the Board. This bandh was called by the DMK in Tamil Nadu.

The Supreme Court, on February 16, had set a March 30 deadline for the central government to set up the Cauvery Management Board. Meanwhile, the apex court on Monday agreed to hear Tamil Nadu’s contempt petition against Cabinet Secretary PK Sinha and Union water resources secretary UP Singh for not having constituted the Cauvery Management Board within the given deadline.
