What’s New This Week: 8 Films and Series Releasing on OTT Platforms This Week

As several states in India have started to implement tighter restrictions and lockdowns to curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus, theatres and cinema halls remain closed in several states. However, several OTT platforms have lined up releases this week to keep their audiences entertained.

With Tovino Thomas’ Kala to soon stream on Amazon Prime Video and Arjun Kapoor’s Sardar Ka Grandson already running on Netflix, here is a list of eight shows and films that will be on streaming platforms in the near coming days.

  1. Army of the Dead (May 21) – Netflix

With a runtime of two hours and 28 minutes, as per Netflix, the film focuses on a “group of mercenaries” who embark on “the greatest heist ever” into a quarantine zone after a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas. The film stars Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Omari Hardwick. The zombie heist action film is directed and co-written by Zack Snyder.

  1. Room No. 54 (May 21) – Zee5

Presented by Tharun Bhascker, Room No. 54 is a Telugu comedy series that revolves around four engineering students who live together in hostel room. The series throws light on difficulties and daily challenges thrown at the students and how they overcome them. It is written and directed by DS Goutham.

  1. Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous, Season 3 (May 21) – Netflix

Starring Paul-Mikél Williams, Jenna Ortega, and Sean Giambrone, the show will travel along with six teenagers who attend “state-of-the-art adventure camp”. The series follows their escape for survival after dinosaurs break out of captivity.

  1. Play Back (May 21) – Aha Video

The Telugu drama, featuring Dinesh Tej, Arjun Kalyan, and Spandana, claims to be the first Indian film on “cross-time connection”. The plot revolves around two individuals who are from different time periods, 1993 and 2019, and get connected through a cross-connection telephonic conversation.

  1. Dithee (May 21)- SonyLIV

Dithee is late Marathi filmmaker Sumitra Bhave’s last directorial. The film deals with the sudden death of an ironsmith’s son. The story follows how the father and his pregnant wife cope up with the loss and come to terms with the tragedy. An award-winning filmmaker, Bhave won six international awards, 11 National Awards, and more than 45 state awards for story, screenplay, lyrics, art direction, costume design, and direction.

  1. Solos (May 21)- Amazon Prime Video

Created by David Weil, the seven-part series has an ensemble cast, including Academy Award-winning actors Morgan Freeman, Anne Hathaway, and Helen Mirren, Emmy Award-winning actor Uzo Aduba, Nicole Beharie, Anthony Mackie, Dan Stevens, and Constance Wu. According to Amazon Prime Video, Solos explores the “strange, beautiful, heart-breaking, hilarious, wondrous truths of what it means to be human”.

  1. Master of None, Season 3 (May 23)- Netflix

The new season of the show features a “modern love story” that will go through ups and downs. The show will touch upon issues such as fertility and personal growth. The series stars Lena Waithe, Naomi Ackie, and Aziz Ansari. It is created by Emmy Award winners Aziz Ansari and Alan Yang.

  1. Pink, All I Know So Far (May 21)- Amazon Prime Video

Celebrating the work and life of musician Pink, the documentary is directed by Michael Gracey and will show how the musician tries to strike a balance between her personal and professional lives. It will include behind-the-scenes interviews, footage, and personal material to give a glimpse into the life of Pink.
