Theatres Remain Closed on Day 3, Talks Still on With the Government

Theatre Strike Off

Theatres across Tamil Nadu remained closed for the third day today (Wednesday). They have been shut down to protest the 30% local body tax, in addition to GST,  levied upon theatre owners. Though the State Government and The Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners and Distributors Association have been in talks for the past couple of days, no concrete decision has been arrived at.

Saravana Rajan, a member of the Distributors Association, who has been attending the meetings, tells Silverscreen,”We want the Government to scrap the 30% local body tax. But, it says it can only reduce the percentage. So, we are meeting the ministers again this evening, after which we will know when screenings will resume. If all goes well, theatres will likely reopen from tomorrow.”
