Smith confirmed the sequel, by sharing an image from the 2007 movie via Instagram, with Michael B Jordan tagged on it. The sequel marks the first collaboration between the two actors.

While Smith is producing it under Westbrook Studios, Jordan and Elizabeth Rapso are producing the film under their banner Outlier Society. Further, Greg Lessans of Weed Road Pictures will also be co-producing the film.

The film will be written and produced by Oscar-winning writer Akiva Goldsman, who was instrumental in adapting the first film from author Richard Matheson’s 1954 novel.

At present, details around the plot have been kept under wraps and a director is yet to be finalised to take on the project. The first film was directed by Francis Lawrence. In I Am Legend, Will Smith played virologist Robert Neville, who is the only human to survive a man-made plague in New York City. The story follows him, as he strives to find a cure for the plague that has turned all human beings into mutants.

The upcoming sequel, like the original, will be attached to Warner Bros. Studio.
